DIY Layered Spring Greeting Cards

I don't know about you, but as soon as the sun starts peeking through the windows, I get the urge to clear my desk and start something fresh. Today, we're going to show a quick project you can create at home with patterned papers.

I’ve put together a quick guide on how to layer Della By Design Whimsy Daisy Patterned Papers to create a 3D greeting card that looks much more technical than it actually is. It’s the perfect project for a slow Sunday afternoon when you want to make something beautiful without the stress. Whether you’re making a birthday card or just want to send a 'thinking of you' note, these layers add that professional, boutique finish we all love.

Grab your foam pads and your favourite scissors - let’s get stuck in!

Materials You'll Need:

Here’s what you’ll need from your stash (or our marketplace!) to get that professional, layered look. I’ve kept the list short so you can spend more time actually making:

  • Whimsy Daisy Patterned Papers: This is the secret to the whole project! I love the contrast between the bold pink florals and that crisp green stripe. The 'fussy-cutting' sheet with the daisies and birthday sentiments makes the focal point so easy to put together.
  • Card Blanks: I usually reach for a standard A6 or 5x7 inch white base -something nice and sturdy that can handle a bit of weight from the layers.
  • Craft Adhesive: A good glue stick or double-sided tape works perfectly for the flat layers.
  • Foam Dots/Adhesive Squares: (These are a must-have for this project! They give that lovely 3D depth and make the card look 'boutique' rather than flat.
  • Scissors: Or a paper trimmer if you’re like me and want those perfectly straight borders every time.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Follow these simple steps to bring your layered spring greeting card to life.

Step 1: Prepare Your Card Base

Start with your white card blank. I like to take the green and white striped sheet first—it gives such a fresh, clean look. Cut this just a tiny bit smaller than your card front (about 5mm all around) so you get a crisp white border. A quick tip: use a bit of double-sided tape or a glue stick here to keep this first layer nice and flat.

Step 2: Add the Layers

Now for that gorgeous pink floral! Cut this layer slightly smaller again than your green stripes. This "nesting" technique is what gives the card that high-end, boutique feel.

Step 3: Creating the "Lift"

This is where the magic happens! Instead of gluing your next white card layer flat, grab your foam pads. Apply a few to the back of the white cardstock and centre it over the florals. That little bit of height instantly adds depth and makes the whole design pop off the page. It’s a small detail, but it’s what makes people ask, "Did you really make this?"

Step 4: Your "Fussy-Cutting" Session

Now, grab your sharpest detail scissors! This sheet of Whimsy Daisy motifs is designed for "fussy-cutting" - which just means cutting out those individual shapes. Carefully go around that bright yellow "Happy Birthday!" sentiment and a few of the hand-drawn daisies.

My Top Tip: If you leave a tiny white border around the edge of the daisies as you cut, it’s much more forgiving than trying to get right against the line, and it actually makes them look like professional die-cuts!

Step 5: Bringing the Focal Point to Life

This is where your card really starts to tell a story. Start by popping your "Happy Birthday" sentiment right in the centre of that raised white layer.

Now, play around with those daisies! I like to tuck a few directly onto the card with glue, but then use a couple more foam pads for the others. Mixing flat and raised elements creates a "dynamic" look that really catches the light. Don’t be afraid to overlap them slightly, it makes the floral cluster look much more natural and lush.

Step 6: Adding the Finishing Touches

Take a quick step back and look at your creation. This is the moment to really make it your own! If you’ve got a bit of fine glitter in your stash, a tiny dab in the centre of those daisies adds a lovely bit of sparkle when it catches the light.

You could even tie a delicate bit of baker's twine or ribbon around the floral layer, or add a few tiny beads to the daisy centres for that extra "wow" factor. Just make sure everything is stuck down well, and there you have it - a professional, layered spring card that’s ready to pop in an envelope and brighten someone's day!

Make it Your Own:

The best thing about this "nesting" technique is how easy it is to adapt. Here are a few ideas to help you take it even further:

  • Switch Up the Palette: While I’m obsessed with these spring pastels, this layout works with almost any paper. Try a deep floral for an autumn "Thank You" card or something bright and bold for a "Just Because" note.
  • Get Creative with Sentiments: Try a rubber stamp or a bit of hand-lettering in the centre. A simple "Thinking of You" or "You’ve Got This" looks stunning with these layers.
  • Go "Maximalist": If you’re like me and can’t resist adding "just one more thing," try adding some die-cut leaves or even a few strands of baker's twine behind the daisies. There’s no such thing as too many layers!

I can’t wait to see your unique spin on this! Once your card is finished, please share it with us on social media using #CraftSourceProject and tag @CraftSourceMarket. I’m always so inspired by what our community creates!
